HAYWARD PROMISE NEIGHBORHOODS GRANT, Work Group Member

Hayward Promise Neighborhoods (HPN) initiative, a geographically focused partnership that was designed to significantly change the “predictable results” for children in the Jackson Triangle, one of Hayward’s lowest-income and least successful neighborhoods. The Grant focused on STEM and career and technical education, in 34 school districts in five counties. It is also the lead institution in Gateways Cradle to Career Partnership, which is promoting development and career opportunities in the region.

CTE ONLINE, Curriculum Developer/Work Group Member

CTE Online was established to help practitioners articulate a clear and deliberate relationship between academic achievement and Career and Technical Education through access to the following:
• Professional Curriculum Development Tools
• Professional Alignment and Instructional Strategies Resources
• Standards Databases Cross-Referenced to STAR and CAHSEE

 

CTE TEACH, Certified Project Leader & Teacher Mentor

CTE Teach is a professional development program specifically designed for new and veteran career technical education teachers to provide training and professional development. CTE TEACH uses three strategies to support both new and veteran teachers: 1) an on-line early orientation program, 2) an on-line professional development program, and 3) a teacher induction and professional development program. The program is aligned with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and the competencies addressed are those described in the document, California's Teaching Performance Expectations.

 

CSI EXPLORERS PROGRAM POST 510 (Criminal Justice & Forensic Science), Founder

Law Enforcement Exploring is a worksite-based program for young men and women who have completed the eighth grade and are 14 years of age, or are 15 years of age but have not yet reached their 21st birthday. Law Enforcement Explorer posts help youth to gain insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of law enforcement, Exploring offers experiential learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth.

 

CALIFORNIA SKILLSUSA, Region II Coordinator

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student excel. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

California SkillsUSA is broken up in to six geographical regions covering our great state.  Region II covers Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey, and San Luis Obispo counties.

CAROCP (CA Assn. of Regional Occupational Centers & Programs)
Coastal Region, Chapter President

The mission of the California Association of Regional Occupational Centers and Programs (CAROCP) is to promote and support ROCPs in providing exemplary career education, career development and workforce preparation that contribute to student academic and career success and to the economic development of California.

SOUTH HAYWARD COMMUNITY COLLABORATIVE, Original Member,

Facing the challenge of drugs, crime, violence, poor performing schools, neighborhood blight and substandard housing. The collaborative lead to a major neighborhood revitalization and gave rise to a new vision for South Hayward. The collaborative is credited for birthing vital neighborhood partnerships and associations.

Measure HH, Business and Residential Development, Glad Tiding Trustee
In 2002, Glad Tidings as a major South Hayward stakeholder joined efforts with Eden United Church of Christ, (where Glad Tiding’s was founded in 1978), the Hayward Historic Society and the Hayward Area Recreation Department. As a major proponent and spokesman for measure HH, Bishops efforts lead to a shoreline development of 461 homes, a 25-acre community park, a new Costco retail center and designated space for a high technology campus facility.

EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM, INC. (ESP), Former Trustee Board Member

Emergency Shelter Program, Inc. (ESP) is a non-profit agency in Hayward, California, caring for battered and homeless women and children for over 40 years. The mission of Emergency Shelter Program, Inc. is to provide shelter, support and education for women and children who are victims of domestic violence or homelessness.

THE INSTITUTE FOR SUCCESS, Alameda County Welfare to Work,
President, Northern California Community Development Inc.

In partnership with Alameda County, this unique and innovative outreach to unemployed, underemployed and multi challenged individuals provided positive options and pathways to respect, sustainability and family stabilization benefitted 100’s of individuals and families.

HAYWARD COMMUNITY POLICING, In Partnership with Glad Tidings Church, Glad Tidings Church Chief of Security & Public Safety,

With the establishment of the first community policing Sub Station for South Hayward, established on the GT Campus; this community model would lead to a significant reduction in drugs, crime, violence and fear fostering a greater understanding between citizens and law enforcement (Following President Clinton’s appointment of Hayward’s Police Chief to spearhead the National Community Policing Program, Bishop Macklin, as a guest facilitator was invited to a national forum to share the City of Hayward and Glad Tidings Model for community policing).

NORTHERN CA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, FORMER PRESIDENT

This non-profit community Development Corporation has been a driving force in South Hayward revitalization. In addition to numerous efforts and initiatives to stabilize a neighborhood in transition, this cooperation has lead in part and in full to more than 50 new homeownership opportunities and 70 revitalized rental units in 8 complexes.

LOUISIANA BOUND - RESPONDING TO THE DEVASTATION, A Nation in Crises 2005

Glad Tidings Church organized a cooperative effort with the Church of God in Christ, Northern California representing more than 300 congregations and the Hayward Community.  Through this effort 17 semi-tractor trailers were filled and deployed simultaneously to Louisiana and effected states. Just days later Glad Tidings under the leadership Bishop Macklin would lead a 30 member emergency response teams to Louisiana to assist in the distribution of resources, medical response and cash donations.

BAY AREA EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY RESPONSE, Red Cross Gets A Break Day.

This Southern Style Outreach provided complete BBQ lunch and meals for 8 Red Cross Emergency Stations and was a welcome relief to exhausted response teams and law enforcement. The Church of God in Christ, Northern California served cities from Oakland to Monterey.
